Table Top Fire Pits: are they safe? (Midday Maryland)

On the January 21, 2025 edition of Midday Maryland, Dr. Erica Hodgman (Medical Director of the Pediatric Burn Center at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center) discussed the dangers of using table top fire pits with host, Elsa M. 

Many families received these table top fire pits or s’mores makers as holiday gifts. The question now is… are they safe? 

… the short answer… NO, they are not safe due to the risk of serious burn and injury. 

Dr. Hodgman and other medical teams across the country have seen an increase in burns from these devices. In fact, the Consumer Product Safety Commission are urging consumers to not use these and get rid of them. 

February 2-8, 2025 is Burn Awareness Week

The American Burn Association’s Burn Awareness Week will be held on February 2-8, 2025. This is a week where hospitals and organizations bring awareness to burn prevention.
